Desert Ashes - A Short Story (ish)

Subtly, I raised the neck of the bottle so that it’s mouth kissed the desert sand and I watched as the embers and ashes tumbled out of it and into the dip below. I laid the bottle down to rest and silently pushed the ecru sand over it. Not once did it cry for help as it’s features were obscured by the collapsing earth around. I patted and comforted the last of the sand with my dry and blistered hands before turning to face the expanse of dunes lying majestically at my feet. With the intensity of the sun dancing maliciously on my back, I began to climb the dunes. Like waterfalls, the sand fell with every step until I reached the top; I crossed my legs and entangled my limbs, admiring the beauty of the sunset. Gently, I rose from the sand, my arms my pillars holding my strength as the sand surged upwards and whipped her ashes away.
