LIS : Before The Storm - My Thoughts On The First Trailers
In general, I was a bit disappointed by E3 this year; Sony didn't release any new games that I fancied for the PS4 and when I searched to see what Dontnod had done, I only could only find them talking about Vampyr. That was until I stumbled across the trailer for Life Is Strange : Before The Storm. I am so excited for the release of the prequel on August 31st that I felt like I had to make this blog to channel some of my enthusiasm. My plan was to go into the game completely 'blind' like I did with Life Is Strange but I gave in pretty quickly to the trailers and blogs which will be the focus of this blog.
The first thing I am curious about is whether time travel will feature in the game. Time travel was of course a massive focus of the first game closely followed by the storyline but it seems that this time round it might be different. From what I have seen and read, Max isn't in the game at all unless you buy a stand alone extra episode and surely if there's no Max there's no time travel. Right?
Another thing that we will need to get used to over the course of the 6 - 9 hour game is Chloe's new voice. Ashly Burch has been replaced with Rhianna DeVries and for most people, including me, this change will be hard to ignore. According to 'RockPaperShotgun', the change occurred over the voice actor/actress strikes but Burch has remained to consult on the prequel.
Yet another change is the developers. Obviously, Dontnod were the developers of the first game but according to Steam (I've pre-ordered the game already) the developers of Before The Storm are Deck Nine. However, a month ago this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YoVni44YBtE) video was released by Dontnod saying that they have been working on another game, is this the same game as Before The Storm or are we going to get 2 new games?
Now onto the more excitement based positive stuff, I am so so excited to meet Rachel Amber. After only seeing her on missing person posters and in Jefferson's disgusting and evil 'portfolio' I am looking forward to hearing her speak and being able to talk to her. The game will also reveal to hundreds of AmberPrice fans whether the relationship ever was.
Other characters I'm hoping to see include Nathan and Mr. Jefferson himself. I can't quite remember from the first game how long Jefferson has had his dark room (makes me shiver just writing it) and therefore whether it will be. I think other students from Life Is Strange will be in this game as in the final chapter during Max's nightmare we see the previous room arrangement in the dormitories, featuring Rachel and a few other familiar faces. Samuel is of course a character I want to see again, purely because some of the stuff he says is priceless such as; 'Samuel likes squirrels'. How can you not like him? Personally, I enjoyed the Vortex club and the drama that it created so I desperately hope that that is in Before The Storm.
I think that is about it until more trailers are released, there is of course the 20 minute gameplay video that was released but I think I'll wait to play the game instead of watching it.
Thanks For Reading,
And
I'll see you when the next trailers come out!
