Muellers - Epilogue

Baby Hypatia is 3 months old now and is just the sweetest thing.

Alex is progressing very quickly at piano.

Abi has moved in with us and has started a course in law to become a lawyer (and she of course has a new hair colour)

Meanwhile I have devoted myself to my daughter, becoming a full time mum

When I was about 4 months pregnant, it was Hun, May and Mary's funeral and a week later was Lillie's. The world had heard about the murders by the time I was 5 months and there was a public service and Alex and I obviously couldn't go. Oh yeah, they haven't found Daniel, he ran and outsmarted them.

We were also given a new house...

I was in the front room on the floor with Hypatia playing with her, like I do every day, when Alex called me into the study where she was practicing for her grade 5. I tucked Hypatia into my arms and walked into the room.

"What's up?" I asked

"I got you a present..."

"Aww, Alex. Why?"

"You deserve it, you'll love it I know"

She leant down and pulled something out from under the piano and placed it on the seat. She signalled for me to pass her Hypatia and I let her hold her, giving her the usual speech about how to hold her. I picked up the present and began to unwrap it; Alex started to bob up and down with excitement.

"Alex be careful!"

"She loves it though"

And sure enough Hypatia was giggling her little head off.

"She's never on my side" I laughed

I unwrapped it more and pulled out a cardboard box, 'Fragile'.

Slowly, I pulled the box lids open. And I pulled out a perfectly sized, wooden violin. I gasped...

My violin had been left at our original house, I hadn't been allowed to go and get it. I began to cry.

"Go on, play it" Alex whispered

I lifted it to my chin and and felt the strings on the bow. Then I played my favourite piece; a grade 10 solo viola piece adapted for violin. I began to get lost in the music like I used to before... The notes swirling around my mind and the music was pure perfection.

Then someone knocked at the door. I jumped and quickly put the violin away.

"Alex put Hypatia in her kitchen cot"

I began to get very flustered and worried. Ever since we left the flats I was worried that Daniel would find us and I always 'hid' Hypatia. I opened the door to Mark (Hun's dad).

"Oh Mark, I haven't seen you since Hypatia was born"

"Yeah, I'm sorry about that. May I come in?"

"Of course"

I welcomed him in and closed the door.

"What brings you here?"

"I'm sorry that I've kind of abandoned you and Hypatia"

"It's alright, we've all been going through a very tough time..."

"I wanted to come and see Hypatia, she's the only grandchild I'll ever have"

"She's in the kitchen"

We both began to walk into the kitchen

"What's her name?"

"Excuse me?"

"Full name"

"Oh, Hypatia Elizabeth White"

"She's beautiful..."

Mark picked her up and cuddled her...

We spoke for a few hours before he went home.

I guess this is the end of this chapter of my life and the only thing left to say is...

DUM DUM DUM DUM

DUM DUM DUM DUM

"Love you"
