Muellers - #14

This morning Sgt. Wilkes came in to my cell and told me that I had been cleared and was being moved to emergency housing immediately. She also gave me some new clothes to replace the tracksuit that I had been wearing for the past few days. She drove me to a small block of flats and took me up to a heavily protected doorway. The apartment was huge! It was very plain, I guess so that they can offer it to anyone and they can make it their own.

Sgt. Wilkes sat down and began to explain, "This apartment is for anyone in need of emergency housing for those who are evicted or their homes are destroyed for whatever reason or people like you who can't return to their home..."

"But I will get to return home eventually, won't I?"

"...we don't know, let's hope that you can. Anyway this home is usually for families with up to 6 members not one with just 2."

"2?"

"You and your sister."

My jaw dropped and tears began to fill my eyes.

"Have they not told you yet?"

I shook my head.

"Your sister, Louisiana?"

"Yeah..."

"She's okay and has been cleared. She's coming over in a few minutes..."

"Oh..."

I tried to speak but the words were stuck.

"I just need to check something in the car. I'll be aback in a few minutes."

I smiled as she went out the door. A silence descended on the flat and I wiped my eyes and laughed. Lou was okay...

5 minutes later I heard the latch in the door slide across. I stood and looked at the door...

"Lo-"

My hand went to my mouth. Was this young woman really my baby sister?

"Hi Connie..."

"Oh my, Lou!"

We ran to each other and embraced.

"Lou, Lou, Lou, Lou, Lou... Oh my goodness, you're all grown up..."

She pulled away and laughed breathlessly,"I know... I'm assuming you didn't get a birthday cake in custody either."

I chuckled.

"I got you something..."

"Lou! How?"

"Don't look so excited, it's not much..."

"Still, I didn't get you anything..."

"It wasn't me who got you something, it was the public..."

"What?"

"People have donated stuff Connie, thee are boxes and boxes of clothes and books and quite a few violins... It's where I got this dress, I grabbed some stuff for you too..."

"Oh Lou, I've missed you..."

"I've missed you too..."

A/N

Sorry for the long wait, I hope it was worth it. Are you relieved that Lou's okay? What do your think the police are going to say next? The next episode should be up next week, see you then.

Thank you for reading
