CAS - Habeeba Sabit

This was my entry for a Sims Amino competition. We were told to create a celebrity so I created a British, Muslim journalist who works for the BBC...

'And now may I present journalist, campaigner, feminist and Muslim, Habeeba Sabit!' Looking back on everything that led to this moment I am proud of what I have done and what have achieved...

1991 ---- I was born to Munirah and Badri Alfarsi both of whom worked in the famous gold souk of Dubai, UAE. At the time I had one older sister Surayya who I adored and looked up to. We didn't exactly live a life of pure luxury in Dubai but we definitely weren't poor either, we had a reasonably sized home by the Jeremiah Mosque where we went to pray. When I was 17 I decided to move to Britain. I knew it was the right place for me to continue my journey in life ; I was still a dedicated Muslim but I felt that I had more freedom in England, Birmingham to be precise. I began filming and documenting my journey with the help of Surayya (who was getting married the next year) and by this point my 3 younger siblings, Hamas, Shadin and Kayla. The next year after that was a blur if I'm honest, I enrolled at the Open University and everyone wanted to hear about life in Dubai. After that I got an apprenticeship with the BBC. I was obviously working quite low down at the BBC but I still got to rub shoulders with some of the best presenters, directors and producers, and it was one of these producers who found my homemade documentary on moving to Britain. Before I knew I was sitting in a meeting room with a board of directors, editors, producers everyone really over this...

It was amazing getting to work with professional crews and the response to it was incredible. I was known as a nation wide sweetheart and had gained the nickname, 'Pretty-Eyes'. Which I of course didn't mind! Over the next four years I began to produce my own documentaries about others until I was placed in a arranged marriage by my parents, I was the focus of yet another documentary.

I flew over to Dubai for the wedding but was allowed to return to Britain afterwards with my new husband, Aariz as Habeeba Sabit. In the past year I have done numerous things for the BBC including a news reader!

And today I am on the red carpet for #SARedCarpet2K16. And although I'm not the most anticipated celebrity there I feel that doesn't matter, as long as I've made a difference...
