Muellers - #8
In line with my order, Hun pulled outside my house at seven o'clock on the dot, probably completely unaware that I had been watching him wait in his Mini Cooper just around the corner for the last ten minutes. I came and jumped in the passenger seat as he turned down his radio and I looked at him curiously before turning it back up only for the 2 Scottish accents of the proclaimers to come up singing 500 miles.
"Really?" I said turning it off again
"You look stunning Connie"
"Thank you Hun, much the same for you"

As we pulled up outside the restaurant the flashing neon lights of a nearby nightclub caught my eye, "we're not going to a nightclub are we?"
"No"
It was only as Hun turned to face the restaurant did I realise where we were.
"The Hare and Goose! It's so expensive in there!"
"Only the best for you"

We were both waiting for our starter when I looked up and into Hun's eyes, "Hun?"
"Yes Connie"
"I really need to call you by a different name, because Hun sounds like an abbreviation of Honey"
"Call me by my middle name then."
"What's your middle name?"
"Handson"
I gave him a look that all women have perfected, "that sounds like handsome"
"It's my middle name" he said defensively
"No it's not. Your middle name is Steve."
That got him to be quiet. Then out starters came, I had scallops whilst Hun had dough balls and garlic butter. We ate in quiet contentment until I began to feel a bit queasy.
"Hun." I whispered
"Yeah"
"Somethings not right with these scallops, I'm feeling a bit sick, can we go?"
"Of course. I wasn't sure how I was going to pay for the main and dessert as well"

We went for a walk in the park before getting back in the car.
"Are you feeling better now?"
"Yeah, I guess that place isn't as good as it looks online."
We both went and sat down on a bench before Hun looked at me and began to sing, "when I'm walking, well I know I'm gonna be, I'm gonna be the man who walks a long with you."
I smiled.
"And when the money comes in for the work I do, I'll pass almost every penny on to you."
We stood up
"And then I would walk 500 miles, and then I would walk 500 more" I began
"Just to be the man who walked a thousand miles to fall down at your door" Hun continued.
"Da, da, da, da" Me
"Da, da, da, da" Hun
"Da, da, da, da" Me
"Da, da, da, da" Hun
"Da, da, da la da, da la da, da la la la la" Both
We collapsed on the floor in fits of laughter before Hun pulled me back up, "let's do a mash-up!"
"Alright then, you start 'Handson'"
"We've been going together, far to long to be vague when there's something to say."
I gave him a sceptical look, I had never heard this one before
"I love ya! And I want to be with ya!"
Still didn't recognise it
"Have kids! Grow old together!"
Oh! I knew it from somewhere
"Hold hands when we walk in the park!"
"Let's get married..." I whispered. That was the song.
I watched him get down on one knee, "come on darling, please take my hand."

I placed the doll down as Hun tapped me on the shoulder.
"Connie..." He whimpered
I turned around to face him, my pink, flowery dress not far behind. He was wearing his normal blue shirt and braces.
"Yeah."
I noticed his cupped hands.
"Connie, will you marry me?"
He opened his hands to reveal a plastic ring covered in embedded fake jewels.
"Come on children, breaks over" Called Ms. Gates from the classroom door.

"I'm sorry. It's just not right."
I turned and ran. I heard Hun calling my name, knowing in my heart that I had just turned down my one chance to make everything right...
